And you may ask yourself...
What's a Fire Grid?
Answer #1 - It's an instrument for playing with fire, translating your physical gestures into gestures
of flame.
Answer #2 - It's an 8x8 grid of propane fed flamethrowers (that makes 64 if you're counting), arranged on 1ft centers.
It lies horizontal to the ground.
The flamethrowers are controlled by a computer with a pressure sensitive input pad. Patterns that you draw
on the pad are reproduced in fire on the grid. Since the pad is pressure sensitive, if you press lightly you'll get small flames and if you
press hard you'll get a big ones!
You're Kidding, Right?
Definitely NOT kidding! The Fire Grid is some of the most fun I've had in my adult life.
Gestural control of flame taps into people's minds at a very powerful level. It's great fun to "play" the
grid for spectators, and it's even more fun to watch what happens when other people play it. A
personality change occurs in them, and even the most timid participant can become a chest beating, howling
pyro dervish when they realize their control over such a primal force.
When Can I Play With It?
The Grid is sleeping right now. I'm rewriting the software and thinking about integrating all the parts into a single trailer. Keep an eye on our Shows
section for announcements, or sign up here for our mailing list and we'll keep you informed.
My friends can attest to the fact that I will talk endlessly about this project. Feel free to contact me if
you have questions...
